Mom....oh Grammie...

Hopefully I will find the pictures to add to this post.  This afternoon, Steve and I went to the movie, Parental Guidance, which was predictable but...heartwarming.  Maybe it was heartwarming because, I thought about my mom.  At the end of the movie, they had many old pictures of families...some of which could be posted on the awkward family pictures site.

So as I was watching the pictures scroll through with the credits, I thought of mom's first meeting of our son-in-law, Andy.  We went over to mom's apartment because Jane wanted Grammie to meet Andy who was fast becoming very special in her life.

Now you will have use your imagination as to what happened until I can find the pictures to upload.

Picture this:
Jane and Andy were talking and enjoying Grammie when someone suggested a picture of the 3 of them.  Jane sat down, Andy sat down, and then Grammie sat down...right in the middle of the two of them.  The conversation and action went something like this:
Jane:  Grammie are you trying to steal my boyfriend?
Grammie:  Turns to Andy and grabs his hands in hers...she then makes some attempt at flirting with him. She starts laughing and slowly throws herself back on Jane and gets a hug from her granddaughter.  By this time, everyone was giggling and Andy's eyes were sparkling.

Grammie then sat up and "composed" herself to take the photo, looking as proper as she could being perched between Jane, her granddaughter, and Andy, her future husband.

It wasn't until I got the pictures developed that mom realized that the camera was rolling throughout her little antics.  Sothis afternoon, the movie started me thinking about mom, about some of the events that shaped our lives....and I smiled.  Mom was quite a woman...and she has left quite a legacy.

Grandparents....in North Dakota

I think that Jane would agree with this picture.  We went to ND and visited Andy, Jane and Emma.

I think this is what we will see when we go see Jane again.
A week after the Tengesdals left...we flew to Minneapolis to visit the McCoys.  There were red hot airline tickets and we flew from Seattle to Minneapolis, which is 240 miles from Fargo.  Jane, Andy, and Emma came to pick us up.

We had a fabulous time.  We stayed in Minneapolis and came home on Saturday.

We were able to have supper with some very good friends and we met for church on Sunday.

This is a dress that belonged to Betsy
and Jane.  Both Mazie and Emma have
worn it and it was noted that I
allowed our daughters to wear very
short dresses.

With Andy doing one of his rotations in Grand Forks, he was off on Monday very early...we didn't get up to say good bye!  I know, terrible in-laws.

Emma was scheduled to be off for the rest of the week to play with us.  We were able to have a vehicle so we thought that there would be fun times ahead.  Then...like many times when we come to visit...Emma started with a temperature and didn't feel great so our plans changed to cuddle and snuggle and play...oh...it was tough but we were able to force ourselves to enjoy the cuddle time.

Emma got the same bed that Mazie
got but Mazie just let Kelley sleep
in the bed, Emma was a very good
mommy and crawled right into bed with
her babies and Poppa had to fix the
mistakes.  Emma helped!!!!
We were able to go around the block
and enjoy the nice cold air.  Emma
LOVES to be outside.

Every stuffed animal did have to try out the
bed.  We didn't build it with a built-in
bedside table, but obviously, it has one.

Big girl bed was a great adventure...
both THEN and NOW....
And what Nana and Poppa wouldn't get excited to see the tiger,
knowing that there was a reason why he showed up!!

We played a game and Emma loved the idea of the game.  By
the 3rd or 4th time, she was catching on to the variation
that we made up!!!  Have NO idea what the real game would
play like.

Poppa read to Emma and Monkey, and Oliver...
and many other stuffed animals that would
fit on their laps.

A trip to IKEA is always an adventure...a tent over a bed...
Way cool...or as Gramma Lynn taught Emma
"Cool, Cool, Cool"

Okay, so now the confessions begin...In case you wonder...
Emma really is the center of our world when she is around.
That does present some problems....

!

THAT LOOK~!!!!  The one that melts a poppa and nana's heart!

THAT is the look that got us in trouble!
Nana, will you hold my hand until I go to sleep?  THAT LOOK!
Nana, can I have another cookie?  THAT LOOK!
Poppa, will you read me another story?  THAT LOOK!
Nana, I know I have been in bed and it is bedtime and it looks like I am stalling, but I
really have to go potty...?  THAT LOOK!
THAT LOOK works on Nana and Poppa.  The problem came...when THAT LOOK really didn't cut it when we left!!!
Okay, Jane said...at 8:30 she also loves THAT LOOK...at 12:38 AM, maybe THAT LOOK just doesn't make it.

We had a great time.  We loved visiting this family in January, in North Dakota. Our trip back to Seattle may just make another post.

God had blessed us this holiday season with visits from our most precious treasures.  AND we have plans for the next time we see each other.  AMEN
